A summery twist on the classic cocktail, this passion fruit margarita is made with passion fruit juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and lime. It's a beautiful, sweeter drink, with the juice and a little simple syrup. This makes enough for one drink, but you could increase the amounts to serve a crowd.
One reader, Jenna, commented: "I made this and the watermelon mojito on the weekend with a friend and it was very good. I made it with passionfruit nektar."

Ingredients
A typical margarita is made with tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. This passion fruit version includes passion fruit juice and simple syrup for a sweeter margarita, just right for summer sipping.

Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
- Passion fruit juice: this is usually sold in tetra bricks in the juice aisle and is sometimes called passion fruit nectar. If you can get fresh passion fruit, you could use the pulp from that, sieved, instead of juice.
- Tequila: use either tequila or mezcal, whichever you prefer.
- Simple syrup: this can be omitted if you prefer a less sweet margarita. Either buy it or make your own.
- Tajin: this is a Mexican spice mix that you can often find in grocery stores or at the liquor store. If you can't get it, you can use plain salt for the rim.
- Orange liqueur: margaritas are always made with triple sec, but you could sub another orange liqueur in a pinch.
For more warm-weather drinks, try mixing up a bright pink hibiscus sour, mai tai with homemade orgeat, or fruit-filled strawberry lemonade sangria.

Method

Step 1: juice the limes, then rim the glass with salt and tajin.
Step 2: add all of the ingredients to a shaker with ice.
Step 3: shake until well combined and very cold.
Step 4: pour into the salt-rimmed glass and serve immediately.
Top Tips
- Don't add too much ice: this is made using a wet shake, meaning the ingredients are shaken with ice to make it very cold before serving. Any more than one ice cube in the glass will water the margarita down (so don't fill the glass with ice).
- Mix up the rim: we recommend mixing salt and tajin to rim the glass if you can find tajin. It makes it a little spicy and pairs nicely with the passion fruit.
- Use that spent lime: it's the perfect way to get the salt to stick to the rim of the glass, and an easy no-mess way to do it.
